Consolidation and reinforcement of the cliff and of the ancient caves in front of Rinella beach – Salina Island (Aeolian Islands)

The Project, based on environmental, geomorphological, hydrological, geotechnical and hydraulic features of the site, aims at improvement the safety conditions of the cliff through execution of works at low environmental impact, respectful of the particular landscape value.

Schematicamente il progetto prevede la realizzazione dei seguenti interventi:

  • Consolidation of the ancient caves along the cliff, through building of the interior walls, application of welded steel nails with steel bar and shotcrete mixed with sand in the same lithological nature of the local one.
  • Rehabilitation of the entrance of the caves, through the reconstruction of the ancient arches and piers, stone and mortar, with absolute respect for the original typology.
  • Regimentation of secondary hydraulic net along the hill, through the implementation of typical drywall along the existent small street;
  • The natural stone wall provides a draining function, avoiding a dangerous concentration of water.
